Q: What is DIRECTV® DVR with TiVo® service?
A: It's the most advanced, easy-to-use service available that can digitally record and store up to 35 hours* of television programming without videotape. Tell it once, and it will automatically record your favorite shows every time they air on DIRECTV — even if the network lineup changes. It lets you pause up to 30 minutes, instantly replay, rewind and play back — in normal speed, slow motion or frame by frame — a live DIRECTV® broadcast. DIRECTV® DVR with TiVo® service provides you with more flexibility to watch shows when you want, giving you more control of your television viewing experience.

*Actual recording capacity varies depending on the type of programming being recorded.

Q: Are there parental controls?
A: Yes. DIRECTV's built-in "Locks and Limits" feature allows parents set rating and spending limits on DIRECTV® programming. Consult your System Manual for details.

Q: Can DIRECTV® DVR with TiVo® service suggest shows on DIRECTV that I might want to watch?
A: Yes! When you use your remote control to rate the shows you watch, TiVo learns what types of programs you like and dislike. Then TiVo recommends and can even automatically record shows that match your interests.

Q: What if I only want the DIRECTV DVR with TiVo service to record shows or movies featuring my favorite actor?
A: DIRECTV® DVR with TiVo® service can do that! Just use your remote control to tell DIRECTV® DVR with TiVo® service your favorite actor, director or category (like drama, comedy or football); then it will find and can record the programs that match your interests.

A: You can use your VCR to transfer any DVR recording to videotape for long-term storage.

Q: How will I know when the receiver's memory is getting full?
A: The DIRECTV DVR® with TiVo® service will tell you if there isn't enough memory left to record the program you've requested. Then you simply delete older recorded shows to make room for newer ones.

Q: What equipment do I need?
A: The DIRECTV® DVR includes a digital set-top receiver, a mini satellite dish antenna with a dual-output LNB and a universal remote control. The receiver with remote control will also be sold without a dish antenna for customers who already have DIRECTV® service. In order to enjoy the full benefits of this service, your receiver must be continuously connected to a land-based phone line.

What high-definition programming does DIRECTV offer?
Can I keep using the DIRECTV equipment I have now once I add HD?
What equipment do I need to receive high-definition television programming?
How does the DIRECTV HDTV offering compare to other companies' HDTV service?

Q: What high-definition programming does DIRECTV offer?
A: DIRECTV recently launched the HD Package that includes ESPN HD, Discovery HD Theater™ , HDNet, HDNet Movies and HD Special Event programming (such as the Pro Golf Master's Tournament). In addition to this package, DIRECTV offers High-Definition PPV, HBO® HD and SHOWTIME® HD . (HBO® HD and SHOWTIME® HD are included with their respective premium package subscriptions.)

Q: Can I keep using the DIRECTV equipment I have now once I add HD?
A: Your current DIRECTV equipment will provide access to digital-quality programming for as long as you own the system. If you purchase an HD receiver for use with a new HD television set, for example, the standard receiver you already had can be relocated to another room in your house. It's only $4.99 per month for programming on the second and each additional receiver in the home.

Q: What equipment do I need to receive high-definition television programming?
A: In addition to an HD-ready television set, you will need an HD video source (satellite, cable, off-air antenna) which is most commonly accessed by a receiver. Some televisions are built with an HD tuner inside, but it is most common to purchase that component separately as part of an HD receiver. If you want to receive your local channels digitally via an off-air digital source you will need an off-air antenna in addition to the receiver.

A big-screen HD television without an HD video source will only produce a larger picture of the same quality you had with your standard television.

Q: How does the DIRECTV HDTV offering compare to other companies' HDTV service?
A: When connected to an off-air antenna, all DIRECTV® HD Receivers will receive and integrate your off-air digital local channels into the Advanced Program Guide™ . This allows you to seamlessly tune to DIRECTV® programming and off-air digital local channels using your DIRECTV® HD Receiver, and provides program guide information for your off-air digital local channels.

DIRECTV is competitive in its pricing and selection of HD programming options, and their 100% digital-quality service ensures you will not experience the signal degradation that occurs when analog cable is viewed on an HDTV. With DIRECTV, all your DIRECTV programming will still be seen in crisp, digital quality on your HD television set.

DIRECTV will continue to explore adding new HD programming events and channels as compelling content becomes available.
